Meet Dr Beth Ollington
“We have a counter that shows us how many lives we’ve helped each month and over the year. Whenever I’m having a tough day, I look at the counter and imagine how many lives we’ve touched – because every life helped affects not just the individual, but all their friends and family too.”
It’s International Women’s Day! Today we’re introducing you to Dr Beth Ollington, who works in our Cell Therapy Centre in Nottingham.
Beth is one of our Cell Therapy Process Development Scientists, meaning she looks at improving all our current processes and methods in our cell therapy centre, to make our work faster, more accurate, and cheaper. Beth’s work means that we’re consistently able to deliver the highest quality cell therapies possible for patients who need it.
Beth reflects on being a female in STEM, and gender parity and disparity within the industry.
“Typically, biology is a female-dominated science, and in my personal experience the people working in this field are relatively evenly split between men and women. However, anecdotally, women are typically in lower-level positions, whilst men are in higher-level positions. I’m hoping that with recent hard work in this space, and incentives offered to prevent talented women leaving STEM, this will not be the case in 10-20 years."
We’re thrilled to have Beth as part of our Process Development team – and we’ll be introducing you to more of our amazing colleagues soon!
