• Recruiting donors

  Our register development teams, university networks and school programmes encourage as many people as possible to sign up to be potential lifesavers.

• Laboratory testing

  Once our wonderful donors are on board, our lab teams work their magic, testing tissue type swaps to gather the essential genetic information we need.

• Finding a match

  Our transplant teams then use that critical genetic data to determine the best possible match between a donor and stem cell transplant patient.

• Donation time

  When a match is found, we make the call and arrange to collect those stem cells from our incredible donors as soon as possible.

• On the move

  Those lifesaving stem cells have 72 hours to be transplanted. When every second counts, our volunteer couriers step up to transport them quickly to waiting patients.

• Transplant time

  The small but mighty stem cells are then transplanted into the patient, where they will hopefully engraft and start to rebuild a healthy immune system.

• Recovery

  Our patient services teams, specialist nurses and psychologists move into action next, helping each patient on their often challenging and lengthy road to recovery.

• Powering progress

  Our research, strategy, leadership and support teams keep pushing the boundaries in science and beyond. Together, we’re improving transplant journeys, discovering new treatments, and driving survival, equity and progress for every patient.

  Our policy teams campaign tirelessly for change and more government support, so that together with our partners, we can advance research and improve healthcare.

• What are Anthony Nolan’s strategic aims?

  Progress – To explore and embrace new cell therapies and make them available for patients more quickly.

• What types of scientific and data roles do you have at Anthony Nolan?

  They are very varied. Our three world-class laboratory sites provide the perfect environment for scientific discovery, the development of new treatments, and a rewarding career.

  We have research opportunities in the areas of HLA Informatics and Immunotherapy, as well as laboratory roles involved in cell collection, genetic testing, sequencing services, cell processing, and cryopreservation.

  Data is a key tool in our work – whether we’re analysing a patient’s DNA, gaining vital insight into their individual needs, or trying to pinpoint the best ways to keep our amazing donors on our register. From Bioinformatics roles to Data Analysts and Data Engineers, there are a host of opportunities.

• What types of careers can you pursue at Anthony Nolan?

  There is a huge choice. We have Operational teams who support donors and make stem cell transplants happen, and teams who support patients through their journey from being informed they need a transplant to long-term recovery.

  We also have careers in Registry Development, Fundraising, Communications, Marketing, Strategy, and in our People team.

  We have technology roles in IT services, development, engineering, business intelligence and product teams.

  There are vital support positions in Finance, Property & Facilities, Legal, Governance and Procurement.

  Our three world-class laboratory sites also provide exceptional opportunities.

• Will I be able to work some days from home?

  This varies widely across teams at Anthony Nolan. Some teams work full-time on site in a hospital or a lab, some work most of the week from our offices, and some only need to come in a few times a month. This flexibility is important to us, but being there face-to-face with patients and donors when they need us is vital, too, which means not all our roles can include home working. We want everyone at Anthony Nolan to build strong connections with their teams and other colleagues, too, so we can drive innovation and progress together – and for most of our people, this involves spending some time on site.
